The technology dates back to the early 18th century and was used in motorized bicycles. These motorized vehicles is basically the same as the standard bike, it uses human energy and motor to make the bicycle run faster. Another type is the series hybrid bicycle. This uses the electricity and pedal to run the motor. As the user pedals, the battery stores energy, which will then be used as a power source to run the motor. This concept is pretty simple, but has become one of the most effective alternatives to single energy source vehicles.

This midsized sedan has long been anticipated by car experts and customers alike. GM holds the promise to change the way hybrid cars in a tremendously different and more efficient way. This has long been General Motor’s ambition that has been developed for quite some time now even sacrificing the development of its other models just to reach the final result of the Chevy Volt.

The Chevy Volt is now called as an “E-REV”, or Extended-Range Electric Vehicle. They need to separate it from the conventional hybrid car distinction to emphasize change. Hybrid cars are gas-powered cars that are boosted by electric motors for better gas mileage. The Chevy Volt works in an opposite way, it is powered mainly by an electric motor that is combined with a small gas engine that boosts its performance and range.

This means that the gasoline engine does lesser work compared to other hybrid cars. It is said that the electric motors are capable of powering the car up to 100mph for up to 40 miles. The gas engine kicks only to recharge the lithium-ion battery when it is almost empty.

The Chevy Volt sets another milestone to the car industry, developed by a world renowned company, General Motors. We can only expect better and more efficient cars in the years to come.
