Devan Acura Of Norwalk

When we bought Higgins Acura in February 1996, we had a very difficult decision to make…what to name the dealership? Sure, we could have named it after ourselves, but who would buy a car from Blitzoff Acura? So we decided to name it after our most prized possessions: Jonathan’s daughter Devon and Marc’s son Evan. Thus, Devan Acura of Norwalk was born.

When we bought the dealership, we were lucky enough to inherit a very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. And many of them are still with us today. To get pictures and bios on our staff members, just click on the MEET OUR STAFF button at the top of this web page.

We thank you for your continued support and loyalty and hope these changes will make a difference for you. We’re both at the dealership every day, so feel free to call us at 203-838-7201, e-mail us or just stop by and say hello.

Government incentives for hybrid cars

Countries all over the world and in some states of America are offering incentives to car owners who opt to buy, use, and maintain a hybrid car. This is absolutely good news to car owners, who are burdened with many maintenance and fuel bills for the entire lifetime of the vehicle. Some of the incentives can be in the form of tax discounts, tax credits, marked-down insurance policy, and even
waived parking fees.

What does this mean? This governmental effort of urging people to own and acquire hybrid car, instead of a regular one, speaks of many things about hybrid car. One, it testifies to the fact that this vehicle helps promote people to take care of the environment. Test runs have confirmed that it minimizes carbon monoxide emission to the atmosphere up to 80 to 90%. It also improves mileage and fuel efficiency of the traffic in a locality, improving not only its quality of air but also its economy. Moreover, it would inspire constituents to pitch in their help in protecting the environment.

Two, it proves that hybrid car is the perfect vehicle for sustainable development. Now that there are fewer oilfields, and those existing are almost depleted, using a car that does not consume so much fossil fuel is an intelligent choice.

The Real Cost of a Hybrid Car

Purchasing a hybrid car is a brave one. Not only is the car owner paying more than the usual price for a car, he or she is will also be facing with a lot of maintenance issues in the future. Below are some of the problems that are likely to surface along the road.

1. Buying spare parts would be difficult. It is because hybrid car is a new model, with parts that may not be found in the neighborhood automotive repair shops. Ordering spare parts from the manufacturer might be required and, naturally, be more expensive.

2. There are several states and countries that may charge more in taxes on the car’s purchase and registration. Countries like Singapore and states like California for example have different sets of taxation scheme for acquisition, registration, and insurance for the vehicle according to its type and model. It is therefore necessary to ask for the transportation office about such information.

3. Mechanics do not have the know-how and technical skills to solve the simplest of problems in the car. A hybrid car is more complicated than many of us think. An average technician or mechanic in the locality might not be able to troubleshoot the vehicle immediately as they do with ordinary cars.

Who Invented the Hybrid Car?

The American engineer Victor Wouk is credited to have invented the first modern hybrid engine for vehicles in the 70s. He once said that, spurred by the America’s passing of the Clean Air Act, he was inspired to establish a company and start his research on what is now known as a hybrid car.

Thirty years have passed since Mr. Wouk has invented a prototype. Today, there are more than a handful of car companies who are actively taking Wouk’s work into better models. Here are some of examples of notable hybrid car models.

Chevrolet Tahoe is an SUV-type vehicle launched by General Motors in 2008. Its engine is powered like the Prius, with a rechargeable battery for energy storage. Its sales surprised reviewers, as it had been popular with car enthusiasts and owners all over the world.

Ford Escape Hybrid was released in America in 2004. Its reception was fairly above average, with 2007 sales of 21,000 vehicles.

Toyota Prius was released in Japan in 1997. It is a parallel hybrid car, using electricity and petroleum as driving fuels. Its popularity is testified by its sales: it is estimated that around one million cars are hitting the roads all over the world.

The Facts about Hybrid Cars

Here at HybridElectricCarz.com we know that a hybrid car is a complicated machine. For instance, it has a start-stop system. In regular car models, the gasoline is used up even when the car is not moving but its engine still on operation, a condition called idling. This usually happens at traffic stops, waiting for a passenger to aboard on the parking lot, and etc. In start-stop system, it uses electricity instead of petrol each time the car is idling. This improves the overall efficiency and minimizes carbon emission.

The hybrid car uses regenerative breaking. Regenerative braking is a system that uses the energy dissipated when the vehicle is stopping, and stores it to energy storage for later use. With this system in place, it is possible for the battery to be charged when the car is in use. In effect, it costs less money for car owners as they don’t have to park their cars electric charging along the road.

Types of Hybrid Car

The development of a good, environmentally-friendly hybrid car is far from conclusive. There are many prototypes and engine models in the automobile market right now that are constantly being reinvented.

This does not only speak about the competition, but also of ingenuity among researchers and mechanical developers in meeting the challenges of a cleaner environment.

To give you more idea, here at www.hybridelecticcarz.com we listed the types of hybrid cars as follows:

1.) Plug-in is a vehicle that can run on electricity alone on shorter distances, and petrol for longer distances. This is good for people who want to minimize emissions while on the road.

2.) Electric assist is a vehicle that powers the engine when the car is running uphill or on sudden acceleration. Honda Insight is a good example. It is claimed that up to 15% fuel consumption can be saved as against regular car models.

3.) Series hybrid consists of an internal combustion engine powering an electric motor. Unlike in conventional cars, combustion engine of a hybrid car does not directly turn the wheels into motion. The batteries do the job. What the engine can do is either to charge the batter or to directly energize the electric motor. It is still under wraps, and first car of this type may be released sometime in the future.
