A hybrid car comes in many designs. It can be powered by solar energy through the use of solar cell panels inlayed on its roof. It can also be powered by chemical means; for example, hydrogen and natural gas have been harnessed and processed as fuel cells. However the most popular and the most in-demand design is the hybrid electric vehicle.

A hybrid electric vehicle combines the energy provided by conventional internal combustion system and rechargeable energy storage system. It needs petrol to engage the engine for propulsion and at the same time, it needs electricity to power various states of motion of the vehicle.
One of the prime examples of a hybrid car of this type is the Toyota’s Prius. Sleek, elegant, and classy, it boosts off a regenerative braking system, start-stop system, and other petroleum fuel efficiency systems.
The Prius car is a mid-size hybrid car. This has been Toyota’s moneymaker since it was launched in 1997, with sales reportedly up to one million units. Because of its design in fuel and electricity usage, the Environmental Protection Agency recognized it as the most efficient vehicle in terms of fuel consumption ever produced and distributed in United States of America.
